Test Debut in Australia
Shubman Gill received a surprise call up to India’s Test squad for the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar trophy in Australia after Rohit Sharma was ruled out due to injury. Gill was initially not in the reckoning for Tests but his solid technique catapulted him into the playing XI.
He made his Test debut in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne batting at number 6. In his very first Test innings, Gill scored an assured 45 and was India’s top scorer in the first innings. Gill followed it up with 35 in the second innings as India pulled off a stunning 8 wicket win.
